IKAT STORY
Our kenaya print is inspired by the Balinese Ikat fabric. Ikat is a woven fabric from south east Asia. Originated in Indonesia , the word Ikat means to tie or bind in Malay Indonesian language. Ikat is made in various countries like India, Indonesia, japan, Uzbekistan and more. The technique shows how deeply history influenced the region’s textile traditions. Ikat is done by resist dyeing yarns before the weaving, thus creating a distinctive style of textile pattern. Double ikat where both the warp as well as weft are resist dyed is even more complicated technique that requires immense precision and patience.
Double ikat of Bali is rooted in the philosophy of balance and reflection through the symmetrical design and motifs ikat is one of the most popular and loved textile in the world of interior design to add colour and the eclectic vibe!
